How It's Made - Delia, Inc. Take raw steel, cut it, bend it, weld it. Cool stuff is created. Everything Delia makes is handmade in their Portland, OR studio. The steel pieces that Delia makes are either sprayed with a clear lacquer or covered with a water based wax. Though often thought synonomous with invincibility, steel is subject to a wide array of damage. The most common is rust. If rusting occurs do the following: Remove the rust. This can be done with an abrasive such the scrub pads that are commonly used for washing metal pots. Once the rust is removed a coating needs to be reapplied so that the moisture in the air does not come in contact with the steel causing further oxidation. We recommend a paste wax. The same wipe on waxes used for wood furniture will do the job. With the exception of the Copperwash finishes, Delia does not alter the color of their work. They love the intrinsic nature of steel and find the many variations in texture and color to be a virtue not a failing. Each piece is either finished with a clear lacquer or wax. If you want to use your piece outdoors or have it finished in a specific color asks us about powder coating options. |
